Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

June 23, 2017

Hi Ms. Julie:

I’m 17 years old and for the past months I’ve been experiencing tremendous changes throughout my life. I don’t know what is it but it seems that everything just been going downhill for me and I can feel my attitude change. Nothing sparks my interest anymore.

Is it because in two months I’ll be 18? I just been feeling really alone and down all the time like I don’t have a life or something, like I’m out of place. I try praying . . . what I say, I believe in it. I seen your post and it made me feel comfortable to ask for understanding and to ask how to pray. Could you pray for me and my family?—Asking for Understanding

Dear Asking:

Bless your heart . . . what you are going through is normal. For one thing, your hormones are raging. It’s all part of becoming an adult. For another thing, yes, you are almost 18 and on the verge of having a change in your situation. Facing an unknown future can be frightening.

But you are doing the right thing if you turn to God. Read your Bible and see how He takes care of his own. He protects the weak and raises up the humble. He meets all our needs and leads us in paths of righteousness. At your age there are many temptations that can take you down painful paths–drugs, illicit sex, alcohol. God doesn’t want any of that for you. Here’s what He wants for his people. “To do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).

“Father God, please hear the cries of my young friend’s heart. She feels alone. Please prompt her with an awareness of your presence. She feels like she doesn’t have a life. Please help her to understand that our true life, our true home is with you and that, in the meantime, you will help us to find joy here on earth. Help her to see that you are the source of joy and strength and peace and comfort. Help her to find a good church in her area that will reinforce these truths and uphold her when she is feeling low. Bless her family and give them peace. I ask all of these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.”

God bless you, Julie
