Drawing Near to God

 Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

August 29, 2016

Dear Julie:

I’m writing because I have come to a time in my life when I truly seek a relationship with God. However, I have led a pretty wrong life involving lots of awful things. I’ve treated people horribly, selfishly, always out for myself…things of that nature.

As I’ve gotten older, I have realized the errors I’ve made. I’ve prayed and begged for forgiveness. However it does not feel like I’ve been forgiven. Anything positive I try to do always hits walls or is extra hard to achieve. I pray I’ll try to be the most positive, helpful person I can…everything I’ve never been. Is there a way I’m repenting wrong? –Sincerely trying to get closer to God

Dear Sincerely Trying to Get Closer to God:

I’m so happy you’ve come to a point where you see the error of your past ways and want to change. This happens to the best of believers.

The Apostle Paul treated Christians terribly, persecuting them, sending many to their death. Then he got saved and wanted to change, he wanted to be like Jesus. But Christians, his former enemies, were afraid of him and didn’t trust him. They didn’t believe his conversion was real. What did he do?

He showed them by his life he was different. He drew near to God and learned to act like Jesus. (Read the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7.) Paul learned to be humble and caring. In time, people believed him and accepted him as genuine.

Be patient. It will get easier. Jesus will help you. Draw near to him and he will draw near to you (James 4:8). Perform acts of kindness and learn to enjoy the happiness your kindness brings to others. This is great. So happy for you. God bless, Julie
