 Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

November 25, 2016

Dear Julie:

I came across your page (no coincidences) I believe in divine order. I have, I should I say had, a friend who I became closely attached with. The Spirit told me not to; however, I thought we could give it a try. Anyway, against my better judgement, I became intimate with him a few times before he went on his job which takes him out of town for 6 months. Everything was going fine, we talked every day. All of a sudden he became distant–phone calls and messages few and far between. I even mentioned it the last time we talked and all he can say is “He’s around.” Right now my heart is hurt. I really wish I listened to the inner being telling me, “No.” I know it’s over. However, I want closure. I’ve been praying that the hurt in my heart would go away. What should I do? –Hurting Heart

Dear Hurting Heart:

I’m glad you wrote. It’s good to put your thoughts and feelings into words so you can more easily deal with them. It seems apparent that this man has moved on, both in distance and in spirit. Let him go. You deserve better than this.

What should you do? You can learn from this so that you won’t repeat this mistake.

#1 Don’t quench the Holy Spirit. He was trying to protect you. He told you NO. But you did it anyway. You thought you’d “give it a try.”

#2 Don’t become intimate with a man who isn’t your husband. Why should a man respect you enough to offer you his life when you give him the benefits of the marriage bed for free?

#3 If you want closure, then do something tangible to signal an end to this relationship. Do you have anything that belongs to this man? Bury it–and DO NOT dig it back up. Or burn it. Or, as others have suggested in other posts, write a message on a helium balloon (like “Good-bye loser”) and send it flying far far away.

God bless you, my sister. You will recover from this in time. Go in peace and follow Jesus. He will never lead you astray. Julie
