 Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

September 27, 2016

Dear Julie:

My husband and I have been separated for a year. He is with another woman who his mother approves of and promotes the relationship. He has a drug addiction that he indulges in every other month when he goes on a binge. I love my husband but I am tired of waiting. I have remained faithful through it all. We have been married for two years. –In need of some spiritual advice.

Dear In Need of Spiritual Advice:

Your husband has a drug addiction and is with another woman. His mother approves of him committing adultery. You have been faithful through it all. If I were a judge, I know who I’d rule in favor of. I’m sorry you are experiencing such betrayal.

All I can say is that drugs do terrible things, even to good people. Whether he was a good person before, I don’t know. Yet you cared enough about him to marry him. Do you still love him, despite all he’s done?

Maybe before completely throwing in the towel, you might consider visiting one of the many support groups for family members of drug addicts. I went online and typed in “help with addictions for family members” and found a long list of organizations in different communities as well as information on what you should and shouldn’t do.

Best case scenario, he’ll get the help he needs and will change. Worst case scenario, he won’t. But at least you’d have satisfied yourself you did what you could.

You asked for spiritual advice. PRAY! Pray for wisdom, pray for your husband’s deliverance from drugs and sin, pray for him to realize he’s throwing away a marriage with a faithful woman, pray for his mother to repent, pray for the other woman to get fed up and leave. STUDY! Study what resources are out there for you and for him. GO! Go to your pastor and seek his direction and help.

May God bless you and give you the answers. May you obey Him and follow where He leads. Julie
