Not Sure What to Do

Challenges Women Face

February 16, 2016

Dear Julie:

My 13 year old son is gonna be a father! His girlfriend is 15 and wants to come live with me but I don’t know about that. Yet, her mother lives with an abusive boyfriend and it’s very stressful for the girl during trying to have a baby. My son is living in another city and won’t be back until June so her coming is okay. I figured she could go back home then to her mom’s house. She’ll be at least closer to her due date. Just want direction on how to handle that because if something bad happens to her and the baby, I don’t want my son blaming me! God bless you.
-Not Sure What to Do

Dear Not Sure:

This baby is your grandchild, and I love that you’re looking for positive ways to protect him or her. Check with the laws in your state. Your grandchild’s mother is old enough in many states to be “emancipated,” meaning that she can be free to live where she wants. Therefore, if you’re willing, she can move in with you. Though it will be an inconvenience for you, it’s the only way to help ensure her and her baby’s  protection from an abusive home life. It will also give you an opportunity to surround her with God’s love and to share biblical truth with her.

God bless,
