Praying for My Marriage

 Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

October 7, 2016

Dear Julie:

How do you know if it is Satan speaking thru your husband ?

I’m going thru a divorce now which he filed the last month of my pregnancy. He has a new girlfriend. He didn’t care bout our daughter while in the womb, now all of a sudden he acts like he wants to see her. But he offends me on the phone and says he wished he never knew me and he doesn’t want me.

I feel a lot of unforgiveness in his heart and he is very negative about me. He’s not himself anymore. I keep praying for him to be restored and come back to the family God gave him. But nothing yet. If I go through with the divorce …aren’t I accepting failure in my marriage and allowing the devil to win this division? –Praying for my marriage

Dear Praying:

I’m truly sorry for the sorrow your husband is causing you. And you are right to wonder if Satan is speaking through your husband. I’m reminded of that Scripture that says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rules, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

Sounds like your husband has changed and that he wasn’t always so unkind and negative. Maybe all us sisters could join together in praying that, like the prodigal son in Luke 15, your husband would come back to his right mind.

If he continues to press for divorce, there’s not a lot you can do to stop him. And biblically speaking: “If the unbeliever (and he is sure acting like an unbeliever) leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances. God has called us to live in peace” (I Corinthians 7:15).

At some point you have to consider your child and do whatever will be best for her. That is, do you want her to grow up in a home where her mother is disrespected (and possibly she will be, too) or do you want her to grow up in a peaceful home where she will be loved.

One thing to keep in mind is that the devil will SEEM to win skirmishes on this sin-cursed earth. But we believers know that God wins the battle. Pray that God will give you wisdom to make the best decision for you and your child.

God bless, Julie
