Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

February 14, 2017

Dear Julie,

I’ve been single about six months after a year-plus relationship. The breakup devastated me, as I thought it would be my last. We were so close to marriage, a house, a family, all the things my heart desires, and then boom it’s just over. I struggled greatly, and even prayed for God to bring us back together. But after months passed, I gave up. I recently found out he’s in a new relationship. I’m okay, and I wish him all the best.

Since our breakup, I’ve really just been seeking God, praying for guidance, healing, wisdom, and ultimately my mate….I haven’t been looking, I want this next relationship to be from God. I’ve been praying for discernment and the wisdom to know when I’ve found it, or when love has found me.

A few months ago, I came across this guy, well he found me, (via social media) and we just began to chat. As we continued to talk, we just clicked. Our conversation is so easy, light, uplifting, (being he’s an elder/overseer). I can’t really call it, but everything feels so right. I’ve never been this drawn, connected to anyone, not even my ex. I went before the Lord in prayer, and prayed for discernment, some kind of confirmation. Because I’ve been praying for my mate, but the answer is still a bit unclear.

I don’t want to rush, but the qualities I prayed for my mate to have are there, and I like him more and more as I continue to talk with him and get to know him. I’m a bit afraid because I’ve only been single about six months or so, but a close friend of mine said that, when you really seek God, it doesn’t take long at all. And when you know, you just know. So could this be true? Or should I wait a while longer until I get an answer from God? I want to be spirit led, any advice?  Sincerely, Seeking Godly Counsel

Dear Seeking Godly Counsel:

Thanks for writing me. I have to ask, have you met this man or are you mainly communicating through Facebook? I think there’s no substitute for spending time together with someone you’re interested in, time to discover if the person is all he says he is. Sad to say, there are lots of deceivers out there.

You are wise not to want to rush into anything. You don’t want to be hurt again. If you should discover over time that he is the man for you, DO NOT HAVE SEX with him until you are married. Too many women have written in with broken hearts because their men, while seeming interested in them, were only interested in sex or money or whatever. God bless you. Continue to pray to God for guidance. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you in his still small voice. He loves you and won’t lead you astray.  God bless. Julie
