Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

March 21, 2017

Dear Julie:

I left my husband in 2006 because I was in a physical and mentally-abusive relationship. We have a now 16 year-old daughter and, in my efforts to keep her safe, I have not been in a relationship since. Unfortunately, neither of us has been able to afford a divorce, but that has not stopped him from having multiple relationships since the separation.

While I’ve remained single, I promised God that I would not choose another man for myself and I would wait until he sent me someone. Ten years later I’m still waiting. Being a single mother has had its challenges. My daughter and I have been homeless a few years now because with a high school education and a trade I haven’t been able to maintain a stable home for her. September the 6th I will be finally starting a job and we will be able to get our own place. Now I have some outstanding utility bills that I need to pay, but at least I will be making $14.00 an hour. It may not sound like much, but it’s more than I have ever made in my life.

My question is why is it some women meet and marry their soulmate after a bad marriage but I haven’t met anyone? I’ve known some women that meet new mates who then pay for the divorce for them. I know God knows what he’s doing but I don’t understand why my struggle is different, why am I not worthy enough to be a help meet. It’s been really tough on me mentally as well. I just had a medical procedure last week and was there all alone. I have been celibate the whole time as I was a child of molestation and wanted to make sure no one got the chance to do that to my baby. –Wondering

Dear Wondering:

Only God knows why things happen as they do. But you can trust Him. When the time is right, you will get the desires of your heart. In the meantime, concentrate on knowing God better and delighting in Him. Psalm 37:4 is a good place to start. “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Perhaps in his wisdom, he’s shaping the perfect man for you who will appear at just the right time.

As you know, this sin-cursed world is full of disappointments and unanswerable questions. For now, we look through a glass darkly, but one day all will be made clear. This much we know is true. God loves you. He is all wise, all knowing, all powerful, and he is able to work all things together for good. His timing is always perfect.

I honor your desire to protect your daughter. God sees this great love you have for her and will honor you for it. I’m sorry for all the difficulties you’ve faced but am so happy you got this job. Things have been tough everywhere, but with the economy picking up, many people are finally getting a break. God bless you, Julie
