Asking for Prayer

 Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

November 11, 2016

Dear Julie:

I don’t Know if I’m writing you to vent or asking for your advice. Probably both. I’m 24 years old and a single mother of a two-month old boy who I love with all my heart. But I’m not on good terms with the child’s father. He has four other children by four different women. I gave up the idea of holding onto a relationship with him because it’s not healthy. But I do want him to have a relationship with his son.

So far he has not been involved. How I would like him to be. I regret not giving my son a better father. I pray everyday to God to help me forgive and forget because I don’t want any resentment and unforgiveness in my heart, but it is a daily struggle. I know I’m not the first or the last to be in a situation like this, but I am asking for prayer to get over this.–Asking for Prayer

Dear Asking for Prayer:

You’re right. You aren’t the first or the last to be in a situation like this. Hopefully your honesty and transparency in sharing your story will prevent others from falling into the same trap.

In my opinion your child’s father needs to learn self-control, and the mothers of all his children need to learn to respect themselves more. No self-respecting woman should allow herself to become part of a man’s stable. Mark Twain once said, “Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.”

I value your desire to forgive and forget. That’s a healthy response. Yet since you desire for your son to have a relationship with his father, you will likely be tested in this area. Ask God to help you each day. And, each day, focus on Ephesians 6, putting on the armor of God for protection.

In the future you may meet a wonderful man who will love you enough to marry you and give your child the benefit of a stable father-son relationship. In the meantime, lean on the Lord and let him be your guide and spiritual father to your son.

I’m asking our readers to join me in praying for you.
God bless. Julie
