Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

November 4, 2016

Hi Julie:

I come to you right now to seek your advice. I am an engaged woman and I have been debating leaving my fiance because he does nothing but scream and yell at me. Currently I can’t leave him because I am pregnant and high risk. I cannot work due to the doctors. I am now talking with someone who I have always had feelings for. He wants a relationship and honestly so do I. I don’t know what to do though because while I love my fiancee I am not in love with him. What do I do? I would like to see where this could go with my other friend, however am scared. I also know my hormones are in overdrive right now due to the baby. Please help. –Confused

Dear Confused:

You’re wise to recognize your hormones are in overdrive which may account for some of your confusion. And I applaud you for being careful with your pregnancy. Right now, taking care of your baby should be your main concern.

I learned some years back that pre-birth bonding is a powerful thing between a baby and their parents. They learn to recognize your voice, even songs you sing to them. Sadly, they also hear screaming and yelling and sense the tension going on in the home. It can impact them negatively. You don’t want that.

Taking your hormones into consideration, you ought to take things slow. Do the honorable thing whenever you can.

1) Talk to the baby’s father about turning down the volume.
2) Invite him to attend parenting classes (free at your local pregnancy resource center)
3) Stop talking to other men while you are in a relationship with someone else. This could be making things worse and causing the man you love (but are not in love with) to freak out.
4) Pray about your future course of action. Ask God to walk you through the coming months and to be your Guide.

God bless,
