Challenges Women Face

June 13, 2017

Dear Julie:
I lost my husband four years ago to cancer and ever since I lost him I have never felt more alone than I do now. I met this wonderful guy and he has made my heart feel love again, but I don’t know if he really does truly love me as he says he does or if he is only saying things to try to help. –Confused and Lonely
Dear Confused and Lonely:
Maybe you’d feel more secure if someone you trusted checked out this wonderful man. I want to believe he truly does love you but, at the same time, you want to be careful. Widows have been targeted throughout the ages by unscrupulous men who take advantage of their loneliness.
God shows special concern for widows and, reading through scripture, you’ll find many warnings aimed at those with evil intent. Maybe that would be a good place to start. Read scripture verses related to widows and see how much God loves you (even says He’s husband to the widows, watching out for them, in Isaiah 54:5). Then pray, asking Him to help you discern whether this man is who he seems to be. Take it slow. Get to know him as a friend. If he truly loves you, he’ll be willing to wait until you feel secure.
God bless you. I’ll be praying for you.

Remember, friends, as challenges come our way, we can face them head-on
through Christ who strengthens us!
