Facing Our Challenges Head-On!

December 4, 2015

Dear Julie: I’ve been retired for six months and spend a lot of time watching television. I’ve noticed, however, that I’m gaining weight and losing interest in life. What can I do to get up off the couch and begin to live again?–Couch Potato

Dear Couch Potato: Many people are taking on what they call “retirement jobs” for the very reasons you mentioned, plus a need for more income. However, if money is not your issue, why not look into volunteering? There are countless non-profit organizations that couldn’t continue without volunteer staff. I suggest you consider what you like to do and then find an organization that could use your talents and gifting. Also, if you attend church, there are plenty of shut-ins that would love a visit from you. Perhaps you could take them shopping or to their doctor appointments. Readers, could you give Couch Potato some ideas?

Remember, friends, as challenges come our way,
we can face them head-on
through Christ who strengthens us!

I have recently found myself in this situation with our youngest now moved out too much free time. Defenitely the volunteering is a great idea, What you get back from it is so much more then you give. I also joined our local ymca to keep moving they have a lot of good programs.

  2. Julie Admin says:

Great ideas, Ginni. And, for me, it’s good to get out among people.
