Destroyed in the Past

 Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

January 3, 2017

Dear Julie:

I have met a man online and he has sent me pictures. I have been in this situation before, and it turned out not to be him in the pictures. I have been praying that God would block it, or if it’s real, show me. I believe in God to answer. I have been destroyed in past relationships and I am scared it will happen again. –Destroyed in the Past

Dear Destroyed:

Online dating can be tricky. Some online dating sites are thoroughly monitored (at least, they claim to be) to discourage folks from posting unreal photos of themselves. If you look at online dating as a chance to network and meet an array of people, then you won’t be disappointed if you don’t meed Mr. Wonderful.

As for this particular fellow, knowing that you’ve been hurt in the past, I’d advise taking things slowly. Get to know and care about the answers your “date” gives you, rather than what you think he looks like. (Cyrano de Bergerac comes to mind. Have you read that book?) If, after corresponding for a reasonable amount of time, you arrange a face-to-face encounter, AGAIN, take things slowly and learn all you can about his faith. Putting all other things aside (good looks, education, wit) nothing compares to having someone share your faith. Wishing you God’s best, Julie
