Fighting a losing battle?

 Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

June 21, 2016

Dear Julie:

I’m asking for your prayers. I’ve just been married for about 3 months, and was in a relationship with him a little over a year. I’m just full of anger and resentment (and mostly hurt) regarding his 2 younger children by a previous relationship.

The problem is, I’ve never even met them (ages 8 and 2 1/2). The 2 1/2 year old is his only son. His kids’ mother refuses to let them meet me and he simply won’t put his good Down with her. He says he’s afraid she will keep them from him and slap him with major child support. I explained we could go to court for visitation, and he just refuses to go that route due to financial purposes and previous bad experiences. My other major problem is that he has to go to her house to visit the kids. And of course she (kids’ mom) hates me, and she wants him back because they were together almost ten years. –Fighting a losing battle?

Dear Fighting:

I will pray for you, for wisdom and patience and strength. You and your husband are newlyweds and are just learning how to live with one another–and that takes time. I can honestly say that our first year of marriage was the WORST. And next year we’ll celebrate our 50th. So don’t give up.

Your husband’s ex-wife may want him back but if she continues to make things difficult for him, there’s little chance of that. Your best course of action is to try to be kind and supportive of your husband. He’s in a bad spot and is frustrated, fearing she’ll cut him off from the children.

As a Christian, you have a great friend in Jesus who will give you the strength you need to walk in the Spirit and to exercise the spiritual fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

God bless, Julie
