Challenges Women Face

February 9, 2016

Dear Julie:

I became a widow three years ago and my life turned upside down. I lost my home and my job. I also lost my mom three years ago due to breast cancer. I buried my mom on New Year’s Eve 2012, and on Jan 3 2013 my husband passed away due to colon cancer. We have two children both in college far away from home so I’m alone most of the time. Julie, will this pain ever go away? I feel as if my grief has consumed me to the point I have pushed everyone away. My children are worried and so am I. I used to be strong, couldn’t nothing stop me. I just want that back. I want the pain to be bearable. I have questioned my faith to the point I don’t praise God like I used to because I have so many questions as to why me.-Praying for Peace

Dear Praying for Peace:

My precious sister, you’ve been through so much it’s no wonder you feel the way you do. Your story reminds me of Job in the Bible. He, too, had suffered blow upon blow. He even asked God “why.” But God didn’t answer that question. Instead He reminded Job that He was the all-powerful Creator, that He formed the earth and all that was in it. Remembering that, Job stopped and bowed before God.

That’s what we, as God’s children, need to remember. He is our Father, He loves us, and watches out for us. We live in a fallen world where pain and sorrow plague us; and until we reach the golden shores of Heaven, that is our reality. But, even so, God wants us to know that He is FOR US. And nothing can separate us from His love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If you want the pain to be bearable, cast your care and your pain upon God. His shoulders are plenty big enough to carry it. And then raise your hands to heaven and praise the One who made you, saved you, sustains you, and preserves you until the day of Christ Jesus. He is coming again. And He will wipe all tears from our eyes. We will be reunited with our loved ones and sorrow and mourning will flee away.

God bless you,
