Sick and Tired

“Comfort ye, comfort ye my people,” (Isaiah 40:1)

January 2, 2018

Dear Julie:

Sometimes my mother seems so old-fashioned that I want to yell at her. Yet she has always been kind and loving to me and my brother, and I know she loves us . . . so I keep my mouth shut. How can I make her understand that times are different now from when she was a kid and that her old rules don’t apply to me and my friends? –Sick and tired of being told what to do
Dear Sick and Tired:

Times may have changed, but God’s law hasn’t. It’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. When he says to honor your parents, he doesn’t say it to be mean or old-fashioned. Rather, he says it to protect you. Who on this earth loves you more than your mother? Which of your friends knows more about life than your mother? Enjoy your friends, but honor and obey your mother. One day, when you are older and wiser yourself, you’ll understand that your mom’s ways weren’t so old-fashioned after all.

God bless. Julie
