CHALLENGES WOMEN FACE aka DEAR JULIE

Till Death Do Us Part

Facing Our Challenges Head-On!

September 25, 2015

Dear Julie: My husband died almost ten years ago and I haven’t had any desire to date until recently when the neighborhood cop stopped by my work on police-related business. We got to visiting and realized we had a lot in common. After several coffee “dates” he asked me out on a real dinner date. I had a great time but I sense he is seeking more of a commitment than I feel ready to give. Should I break things off or wait and see where things go? I like him a lot but wonder if I’m being unfaithful to my husband by seeing another man. –Uncertain

Dear Uncertain: First of all, there’s no way you could be considered unfaithful to your husband. Most marriage vows end with these words, “till death do us part.” Death parted you almost a decade ago, dear one. You are free to date and even fall in love again if such should be in your future. But you’ll never know that if you break things off with this man. Sounds like you have much in common—and that’s a good basis for friendship at the very least. I’d recommend that you wait and see where things go. Life is better with good friends and better still with soul mates.
