Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

June 3, 2016

Dear Julie:

I am struggling with my relationship. I have been with a man for over five years. I love him very much. We have both recently become disciples of Christ.Since that happened our relationship has become difficult. I moved out and we have been trying to maintain a pure relationship. It’s been three months since that happened.

The problem that we seem to be running into is we both can’t agree on if we want to move forward with marriage. He is not sure if he wants to marry me. He doesn’t know what he wants. I don’t want to break it off because three months ago we were both talking about getting married and after we got baptized, everything changed. It seems like one thing after another keeps happening. I am not sure what to do. –Unsure

Dear Unsure:

It doesn’t surprise me that this should happen after you both decided to follow Christ. Though the angels rejoiced in heaven at your conversion, the devil was furious. He is coming at you, firing with both barrels, in an attempt to get you to turn against God. But know this: in Christ Jesus, you are stronger than he is. Read Ephesians 6:10-20 and have your friend read it too. Knowing what you’re up against is half the battle.

You and your friend did the right thing in separating residences but, after five years, there will be many many adjustments to make. Be patient with each other, and don’t you give in to the temptation to move back in together just to keep him. Maintain a godly loving attitude to him and ask Jesus to take control over the entire situation. As I read this morning in Mark 9:23, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

God bless you. I’m praying for you. Julie
