Wanting to Tithe

Facing our challenges head-on!
Challenges Women Face

August 1, 2017

Dear Julie:

My husband and I have decided to start tithing…. I know God’s Word is perfect and true, my husband knows that, too. However, the struggle financially is very real. Please agree with me in prayer that he will go forward with our vow to God and not allow the enemy to detour us. Thank you. God bless you. –Wanting to Tithe

Dear Wanting to Tithe:

Sometimes when I look back to our struggling years, I wonder how we ever made it. We were low income but, when we tithed, we never lacked for anything we needed.

You and your husband have decided to start tithing but the temptation to quit is very real. Here’s a verse that might help. Psalm 56:12-13. I like the King James Version which says, “Vows made unto the Lord are binding upon me.” If you vow to the Lord, you need to keep your promise.

Also, remember Matthew 6:33 where God promises to meet our needs if we put him first.

Then there’s this. I read Numbers 30 to say that a married woman’s first duty is to her husband. If your husband refuses to tithe, he will have to answer to God for that. You personally, however, are right before God when your heart’s desire is to keep your vow–even if you can’t because of your husband.

“Father, please move in Wanting to Tithe’s husband’s heart to show you the honor due unto your name by tithing the first fruits of their income. Show them the wonder of your ways, how you will reward them above and beyond.

“Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Luke 6:38).

“Help them to rejoice in the abundance of your love and provision. Thank you for your generosity, far beyond all we could ask or think. Amen.”

God bless,
Julie
