Over the Rainbow

Over the Rainbow (We Discovered Gold) is a character-driven novel about two families experiencing what everyone fears—that their child will not be born healthy. Yet it’s through this experience that both families develop a trust in God they might otherwise never have known and certainly never would have sought.

After twelve years of trying to conceive, BETH AND KURT JONES become pregnant. Because of Beth’s age, the doctor recommends tests, tests which reveal their baby has Trisomy 13, a potentially fatal chromosomal defect. What should they do? Should they carry this baby to term in hopes a mistake has been made or a miracle will occur? At roughly the same time, EMMA AND PETER RYAN’s five-month-old son is diagnosed with Down syndrome. Should they even consider having more children? Could they handle another disappointment?

The story honestly presents emotions, questions, and fears commonly shared by those whose children face death or lifelong disability. Though dealing with a heavy topic, the tone of this novel is lifted by memorable supporting characters and flashbacks to earlier carefree times. The ending leaves the reader, as well as the characters, with a sense of hope and inspiration. Over the Rainbow (We Discovered Gold) is the fourth novel in the Sisters at Heart Series, is 344 pages, 76,000 words. (unpublished)
