The story honestly presents emotions, questions, and fears commonly shared by those whose children face death or lifelong disability. Though dealing with a heavy topic, the tone of this novel is lifted by memorable supporting characters and flashbacks to earlier carefree times. The ending leaves the reader, as well as the characters, with a sense of hope and inspiration.
